Offering myself what I wish others offered me... [Feb. 4th, 2010|09:48 pm]
underneath The Wise Turtle
What's most important to me is for people to be free to do whatever they want to do as long as everyone actively involved is ok with it.

Infringing upon people's freedom to live the lifestyle they choose, either just with harassment and bullying, or worse, with physical force, is a major cause of mental illness and suicide. And it's so very painful to see it happen so often in this world.

I really look forward to a world where people are respected and offered the good, true, beautiful, and inspiring things they need, including the freedom to be different, regardless of their age, intelligence, or even species.

I do believe there will come a day when diversity is celebrated, and not feared.

I'm sure you feel philosophically edgy for this stance, but we both know that you hold it only to instigate other people. If you truly believed this, you would just openly say, "If a 5 year old understands what sex is, and truly consents to sex with an adult, it's okay."

But we both know that it isn't.
Which is why you refuse to say it.

I've already said that, very clearly, and I'll say it again. If a 5 year old understands what sex is, and truly consents to sex with an adult, it's okay.

Is that clear? Now, with humans, it's just not gonna happen, unless there is some very interesting genetic mutation that causes puberty to happen at a much younger age. With cats, chimps, whales, and so on, who all mature much faster than humans, and reach puberty (when the sex drive awakens) much, much earlier, then sure it's very likely to happen.

Now I also want to clarify that when I say "sex", I'm not talking about genital play. Childcare experts and even just people who hang out with kids (humans) discover that kids do indeed have a curiosity about their genitals and those of others, and will do some experimenting, which is healthy and normal. Kids have sexual sensations that they don't really understand, but appreciate. This is not sex, though. Sex is, for practical/moral purposes, at least with humans, the conscious intent to have an orgasm and/or intercourse.

so you think this (http://www.snopes.com/pregnant/medina.asp) is perfectly acceptable, since she had reached puberty?

I was actually thinking about that when this whole silly discussion was going on. If it's true, then it would be interesting to find out what was going on in her mind. My guess is that she didn't have a clue what was going on, and it wasn't consensual. But who knows.

let's assume that she did know what was going on. let's assume her parents or some other guardian told her exactly what sex was. perhaps they told her it was an expression of love. perhaps the man who knocked her up was somebody she loved.

but she's still FUCKING FIVE YEARS OLD.

do you still think it is okay?

She'd be the only one who could answer that question, obviously.

Re: I do understand how you don't get this.

Would you let a five year old drive a car on I-95 unsupervised? Why or why not? How about letting them carry loaded firearms to school?
