The main branch of the Cambridge Public Library (the temporary one next to Broadway Bicycle School) is closing a the end of this month "to prepare for our move". And the newly rebuilt main branch next to Cambridge Ringe and Latin won't be open until "autumn". Well, phbbbbbbbbtt.
I'm pretty bad at moving, and tend to take a couple of months to do it even reasonably well, so I understand people who want to take their time moving, but 9+ months to prepare for a move seems a bit absurd even to me.
I suppose this means I'll be on the computer even less now, though I may relocate to the Central Square branch for my 9-10 am slot of time on most days (biding my time before the Women's Center opens at 10 and after I grab some breakfast and conversation and browse the Globe at the Inman Street drop in center I go to at 8am).
Everything changes...

CPL Reference Desk Department. Municipal government documents.
CPL Reference Desk Department needs to make available more municipal public documents of our city, for example the latest up to date Cambridge Public Library board public meetings minutes. Municipal government public documents available at our public library should be developed as a robust collection and accessible on the web.Anonymous

Cambridge Public Library
Dear Turil,The closing date was announced because we found out that we had to vacate our location at 359 Broadway sooner than we expected. The school department has been loaning us the use of 359 Broadway since 2005. They find they now need the building emptied this spring in order to renovate it in time to use this fall so their own reconstruction project at CRLS can begin this summer.
The work on the new building at 449 Broadway is proceeding very well. But an exact date is not knowable at this time. We hope to be open this fall if not before.
Best regards,
Mark Freed

Re: Cambridge Public Library
The librarians are lurking! :-)I figured that it was something along those lines. It has been a long time since the regular main building was closed.
Thanks for offering me some more explanation, though. I was planning on asking someone the next time I had the chance, but Betty was busy when I was ready to leave this morning.

Re: Cambridge Public Library
A City Council Order is needed for the more routine transmittal of municipal government departments' public documents to our Reference Desk Department of Cambridge Public Library. As a collection municipal documents should be a greater priority for our CPL Reference Desk Department.see also American Library Association
