Solstice Offering [Dec. 21st, 2011|07:30 am]
For those of you wanting something different, with a more intentionally moral approach to serving people's needs for free expression and information sharing, I offer you the very humble:

http://wholisticenchilada.thewiseturtle.com

... a forum for everything, with the goal of increasing everyone's quality of life.

Livejournal has served us moderately well for quite a while, but now it's time for me, at least, to move onto something more in line with my own ideals for a healthy, growing, human online community, with no messy profit motives and far more respect of individual's needs for freedom of speech.

I hope you'll join me in a new direction for open-ended internet discussions. Posting as a guest is obviously welcome, and if you really feel the need to post anonymously, you can use something like Anonymouse or other proxies or somesuch if you don't want me to be able to see your IP address.

Also, any suggestions for making the PHPBB configuration better is more than welcome. It's a pretty ugly and awkward program, but it's the easiest and best I could do at this point. Please be gentle with it, so that I can keep it up and running as an option for everyone! :-)

Oh, and for those who are curious, the official time of Solstice (the point where our part of the planet is at it's greatest tilt away from the sun) is at 12:30 am tonight (tomorrow morning). Happy renewal!

last minute offering... [Feb. 9th, 2010|10:46 am]
If any of you want to talk to me, please do feel free to use my email at thewiseturtle *at* gmail.com. That's where my energy (information) will be available to any who are interested, as I keep things near the surface of myself, neutrally poised to be used by anyone who's curious about what's inside me. My goal is to output my energy in a more focused way, either having personal conversations with people who I consider myself to be intellectually intimate with, and who seem to have a more intellectually symbiotic relationship with me (i.e. we create good ideas together), or offering my best, most healing, most positive ideas in public forums.

Moving [Feb. 9th, 2010|08:37 am]
I've moved a whole lot in my life, nearly always because I was no longer wanted at a place for one reason or another. Though there have been a couple of times it was because I wanted to be at another place even more. Occasionally, a move has included some of both reasons.

My move away from this journal is one of those with a bit of both. I'm not especially wanted or needed here (and some of the neighbors are outright hostile to me), and I'm also really looking forward to being in a better (healthier) virtual home.

I've also, in general, been voluntarily moving toward the better system of what some call the gift economy and what I usually call the Living Economy, which promotes more natural, sustainable, permaculture type systems, where there are just a few direct exchanges of resources, and everything else is open-ended offerings available for anyone and everyone who finds the offerings useful. Direct exchanges in the natural economy are mostly between close family and friends who find exceptional mutual benefit to being in each other's company, in symbiosis.

So this current virtual move of mine will be very similar to my physical moves, wherein I sort through all of the great gobs of stuff I've accumulated over the years into different piles, each of which goes to a different place:

1. Stuff that I no longer believe is useful at all goes into the trash.

2. Stuff that I no longer need or want, but that is still probably quite useful to others, is usually given away via donation centers, on Freecycle type lists, as gifts, on the sidewalk with a "free stuff" sign, into the compost pile, or it's simply left where it is for others to discover.

3. Stuff that I still need and/or want gets taken with me to wherever it is that I'm heading, either to be used as is, or to be modified into something even more useful.

In light of number 2 up there, I offer you a short period of time to look for anything you want to grab on this journal, or any of my other sites, if you find it useful. I'm not sure how long the stuff will be available (only a few days or so for my professional websites, including thewiseturtle.com, probably longer for this journal) and if there is something specific you want and can't find it, let me know and I'll do my best to find it for you as I sort through stuff.

And as for my new locations...

My new centralized home base is now at turil.wordpress.com.

And I also might be found working in communities and forums and other open-to-the-public places, including here at the LiveJournal communities, on Reddit, Gaia.com, and some other places, usually under the name "Turil" or "thewiseturtle" or something similar. These are where I will be offering my open-ended gifts of things that I have more than enough of (mostly ideas and other energy), and I will also be offering more personal things to my closest friends and family more directly, and intimately, and symbiotically, I hope.

Also note that my email addresses at thewiseturtle.com will no longer work after a few days. Please use thewiseturtle *at* gmail.com if you want to contact me on a more personal and, at least intellectually, intimate level.

Well, I guess that's it for here. See you later, somewhere else. :-)

.

So long, and thanks, indeed, for all the virtual fish!

I wish you all the most good, true, beautiful, and inspiring things... [Feb. 7th, 2010|11:16 am]
...and the freedom to express yourself fully, so that you can grow into the most healthy, loving, compassionate, effective, respectful, and creative individuals possible.

And I hope that you find it even easier to offer awesome things to others, while finding it a truly rewarding challenge to discover what awesome things others have to offer you that make you really love your life.

Clarifying consent. [Feb. 5th, 2010|08:40 am]
I think I really need to work on clarifying the idea of what it means to "offer" something, i.e., I need to help people understand very clearly what "consent" is, as a lot of people don't seem to be able to tell what others are intending, or at least they don't seem to realize that they can tell what others intend.

This is crucial, as the most basic morality of "take only what you need from what is offered, and offer what you have more than enough of" is completely based on understanding one's own and others intentions.

If you can't tell what another individual intends, then it's impossible to have consent.

Offering myself what I wish others offered me... [Feb. 4th, 2010|09:48 pm]
What's most important to me is for people to be free to do whatever they want to do as long as everyone actively involved is ok with it.

Infringing upon people's freedom to live the lifestyle they choose, either just with harassment and bullying, or worse, with physical force, is a major cause of mental illness and suicide. And it's so very painful to see it happen so often in this world.

I really look forward to a world where people are respected and offered the good, true, beautiful, and inspiring things they need, including the freedom to be different, regardless of their age, intelligence, or even species.

I do believe there will come a day when diversity is celebrated, and not feared.

the non-electric cauliflower acid test [Feb. 3rd, 2010|12:08 pm]
The housemate cooked some of our purple cauliflower and I discovered the cooking water acted the same way purple cabbage water is supposed to work, as a PH tester. The boys and I played with these for a while last night. :-)

Vote for a clear definition of health care... [Feb. 2nd, 2010|08:38 am]
Ideas for Change in America

You can vote for promoting this idea of creating policy that aims to unconditionally support everyone's basic health by focusing on the absolute basic needs of food, water, air, warmth, light, and freedom to express oneself, to the Obama administration, via the website Change.org. (And you can vote for any of the other thousand or so ideas, if you like.)
